I. Purpose of Position

The Technical Communications Writer functions as the liaison between on-site Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the off-site (GVRI) team. The Technical Writer/Reviewer’s main work is to perform reviews, ensure quality documents are being released, and provide project direction. Communication with offsite is conducted via the Windchill change management system, conference calls, and email across time zones as necessary. This person will also handle writing tasks for projects.

Our Environment is fast paced and priorities frequently change, requiring the Reviewer to move between projects and roles as the situation dictates while maintaining good working relationships across stakeholders. The coordinator will work in conjunction with the department manager/supervisor to ensure adequate utilization of resources.

II. Key Responsibilities
  • Compile technical data packets within the Windchill change management system, consisting of parts information, procedures, illustrations, drawings and photographs obtained from SMEs or during interviews as necessary.
  • Analyze project requirements and provide direction to remote team through Windchill change management system, email, teleconferencing and web conferencing within multiple time zones as necessary.
  • Work in conjunction with department manager to track progress, review issues and implement solutions.
  • Review deliverables from remote team for accuracy, usability and language to ensure it meets Gilbarco formatting and quality standards.
  • Perform writing tasks as needed.
  • Participate in product knowledge sessions, team meetings and training.

V. Scope and Impact of Position Responsibilities

This position requires significant organizational skills to coordinate multiple requests and inputs from multiple subject matter experts. Execution of the duties can directly impact shipment of product, safety issues, and adherence to regulatory compliance.

Qualifications


: 
 
VI. Background and Skill
  • Degree in technical writing or equivalent experience required
  • Degree in engineering or related discipline desirable
  • Three to five years of related experience desirable
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings and concepts is required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with off-shore teams
  • Proficient in software to produce technical manuals and other materials: Frame Maker, Photoshop, Illustrator, RoboHelp and others as required
  • Demonstrated experience in managing small to large projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
